Mr. Moffat
joined Byrne Engineering Inc. in 2006, following a 32 year career with
Stelco during which he gained extensive experience in Engineering,
Operations and Maintenance.
Mr. Moffat received his
hands-on experience in applications engineering, working on drives,
control, electronic and computer systems in all areas of the plant.
His background includes experience with power distribution,
pre-start health and safety reviews, control reliable systems, radiation
protection, energy reduction and co-generation systems, and major
projects.
As lead Engineering
Supervisor, he was responsible for design, installation and commissioning
of the Hamilton hot strip mill fully automated laminar flow cooling
system, installed during a major revamp of the mill.
As the Maintenance Lead, he
played key roles during design and implementation of the cold roll recoil
tension levelling facility, during several major upgrades to the 4 Stand
cold rolling mill and on Stelco’s green field site automotive exposed
galvanizing facility.
As Engineering Manager for
Hamilton Steel, he was responsible for delivery and execution of
engineering support to the plant, for all disciplines.
While in Operations, he
developed and led multidiscipline continuous improvement teams for yield
and productivity improvement in the Galvanizing and Cold Rolling
Operations. This included responsibility for scope, engineering,
installation and commissioning of nitrogen knives to improve zinc coating
performance at the galvanizing facility.
As Manager of Maintenance, he
was involved with implementation of best practices to promote proactive
maintenance throughout facilities.
As a
Senior Manager, Mr. Moffat was closely involved with customers and
Marketing for product support. A
believer in the importance of well trained support resources, Mr. Moffat
was instrumental in the development of a number of training programs for
operations, maintenance and engineering staff.
