Project: Return
Air Exhaust Fans for Ventilation Capacity Upgrade at the Coleman
Mine |
| An upgrade in the ventilation
capacity inside the Coleman Mine was required to accommodate the
work being performed in the mine. Two surface exhaust fans were to
be installed at two return air raises to increase the mines
capacity. All engineering services were provided for design,
installation and commissioning. Equipment installed as part of
this ventilation system include the fans, structural supports,
communications equipment and vibration monitoring equipment. |

Project: Remotely
Controlled Locomotive Modifications |
|
Battery powered
locomotives used in the hauling of ore required modifications due to
problems in the drive and braking systems. Byrne modified the
hydraulic braking system to reduce the harshness of braking when the
unit is controlled remotely, as well as revising hydraulic
components locations for easier access. The DC drive
controller was also replaced with a new design incorporating fully
dynamic braking to reduce loads on system components. A
complete maintenance and troubleshoot manual was developed. |

Client: CVRD-Inco
Project: Review of
Systems and Procedures at the North Mine
- CVRD-Inco requested Byrne to perform a review of all the
systems and procedures used at the north mine site for hoist rope
replacement, rope cutting and conveyance. The entire sheave
system was examined with procedures documented and anchorages and
lifting devices were checked to determine their ability to
accommodate design loadings.

Mine Sewage Treatment Plant Upgrade
- Structural, mechanical and electrical services provided for
work to convert the plant to a sewage settling plant.
Complete redesign of the new settling chamber, including design of
a new air tight roof, sealing of the tank and water proofing the
entire system. Mechanical work included installing two
sewage transfer pumps and discharge piping. Electrical work
included incorporating electrical unit heaters, pump starters and
sludge level sensors and transmitters.

Mine, 6800L Picking Belt Chute Assessment
- Inspections to determine any corrosion, structural and
mechanical concerns.
