Rob Mieloo

Mr. Mieloo comes to Byrne Engineering Inc. as a process line specialist with experience in all aspects of hot dipped galvanizing design and operations. He has had extensive involvement with major projects, and is very experienced in site work and start-ups.

Mr. Mieloo’s early assignments at Stelco included a major bar mill revamp, cold mill engineering studies and retrofit of a stretch leveller into a galvanizing line.

With facilities planning, he led studies for installation of a recoil stretch leveller line and upgrading of the plant galvanizing capacity.

Mr Mieloo was a lead design engineer on the $175M automotive exposed hot dip galvanizing line major project, responsible for concept, line layout, process range and commissioning. This project was completed on schedule and within budget. As senior process engineer, he regularly benchmarked performance and operator compliance to best practice to establish productivity objectives and to meet the strict quality requirements for automotive exposed clientele. He was responsible for a number of major upgrades to this facility:

Two planned major shutdowns including planning, resource management and schedule compliance.
Design of a new pickling section and improved burner design.
$11.6M project to increase productivity from 370,000 to 400,000 tons per year (achieved 420,000 TPY).
Installed first robotic skimming system for the galvanizing pot, for improvement in personnel safety and product quality.
Scope, design and management of $15.2M upgrade project to increase capacity to 500,000 tons per year and improve product quality.

Mr. Mieloo currently holds a world patent on tension and extension control in a vertical furnace.
